This Summer they are challenging readers to read books that feature different worlds, and that take reader's beyond their comfort zones.
Details:
1.) They want librarians to incorporate diverse young adult and middle grade novels into Summer Reading programs. Either a book display, list, or book club event. Please share pictures or video with them.
2.) They invite readers and book bloggers to read diverse young adult and middle grades, of their choice, throughout the summer. Then right an essay (at least 500 words) about the experience. It can be posted on your website, Blogger, LiveJournal, Facebook, or Tumblr; but must be publicly readable.
3.) What books to read?
Any diverse books you want. Diverse means 1. Main character or major secondary characters who are of color, or are LGBT or 2. Written by a person of color or LGBT author.
4.) Judging will be done by Cindy Pon and Malinda Lo. A grand prize winner in each category will be selected and given a giant collection of YA and MG books. (Checkout the list of prizes on their website)
5.) Deadline for all entries is September 1, 2011.
