I read pretty much any chance I get. I mostly read YA books but some adult ones as well. To me all books are precious gems and are meant to be treasured.

TGIF and Weekly Recap (7):

TGIF is hosted by Ginger at Greads. It's about recapping on what we posted for the week, and also asking our readers a book related question. The question posted by Ginger today is?

Taking it Personal: Which books have effected you on a personal level & lingered in your mind long after you closed the pages?

Schindler's List:
By Thomas Keneally

During the Holocaust at the German concentration camp near Plaszow, thousands of Jews lost their lives at the hands of the Nazis. More than a thousand others would have been counted among the dead if not for a womanizing, heavy drinking, German-Catholic industrialist and Nazi Party member named Oskar Schindler.

One of the most remarkable narratives of the Holocaust, Schindler's List masterfully recreates the daring exploits of Schindler, who used his enormous fortune to build a factory near the concentration camp and saved the lives of over 1,300 Jews. An absorbing, suspenseful and moving account of Oskar Schindler's legacy of life, this is an unforgettable audio program.

My Thoughts:

I read this book in college for a book review/paper. It totally touched my heart. To see what the people went through during this time, and to see the change in this man was amazing. He risked his life to do what was right, and used all his money to save thousands. I only hope if I was in his shoes I would have been able to do the same. If you have not read this book you should. It is defiantly an epic read. I am so happy I had to do a paper on it, otherwise I would have not read it.

Redeeming Love:
By Francine Rivers

California's gold country, 1850. A time when men sold their souls for a bag of gold and women sold their bodies for a  place to sleep. Angel expects nothing from men but betrayal. Sold into prostitution as a child, she survives by keeping her hatred alive. And what she hates most are the men who use her, leaving her empty and dead inside.

Then she meets Michael Hosea. A man who seeks his Father's heart in everything, Michael obeys God's call to marry Angel and to love her unconditionally. Slowly day by day, he defies Angel's every bitter expectation. Until despite her resistance, her frozen heart begins to thaw. But with her unexpected softening come overwhelming feelings of unworthiness and fear. And so Angel runs. Back to the darkness, away from her husbands pursuing love, terrified of the truth she no longer can deny. Her final healing must come from the One who loves her even more than Michael does...... the One who will never let her go.

My Thoughts:

This book is one of my all time favorites. It showed me the true meaning of love and forgiveness, and how no matter what you have done you deserve both. I love Angel the main character and how strong she is, but she does have to let her boundaries down to learn how to forgive others and most importantly herself. In doing this she learns the true meaning of love, and finds happiness.

Memoirs of a Geisha:
By Arthur Golden

We follow Sayuri from her childhood in an impoverished fishing village, where in 1929, she is sold to a representative of a geisha house, who is drawn by the child's unusual blue-green eyes. From there she is taken to Gion, the pleasure district of Kyoto. She is nine years old.

In the years that follow, as she works to pay back the price of her purchase, Sayuri will be schooled in music and dance, learn to apply the geisha's elaborate makeup, wear elaborate kimonos, and care for a coiffure so fragile that it requires a special pillow. She will also acquire a magnanimous tutor and a venomous rival.

Surviving the intrigues of her trade and the upheavals of war, the resourceful Sayuri is a romantic heroine on the order of Jane Eyre and Scarlett O’Hara.

My Thoughts:

I loved this book as well. For one its nice to read about other cultures and the struggles they face. Two, this book taught me to always hope and dream no matter what you go through. Also its those trials and tribulations you face that make you who you are, and they make you stronger for surviving them.

If you would like to see my full review and thoughts on this book check it out here.

These are the books I have read so far that have touched me. I haven't read anything recent mainly because the past couple of years have been really hard ones, and my reading goal has been to get away from reality. So I have read more books that have to do with the supernatural world and issues that I would never have to deal with. However, now I am getting back to those books that truly make you feel, because I have missed them.

  1. I've never heard of Redeeming Love. But Shindler's List and Memoirs of a Geisha are two instant choices when people come into my library asking for a good book. Really great reads ;)

  4. I think Schindler's List would profoundly effect me as well, I haven't read it or seen the movie, mostly because I know I'll be a big, blubbering mess and I need to mentally prepare for something like that:)

  5. Schindler's List hit me hard too...it was an emotional roller coaster and the movie...we had to see that as a field trip my senior year in high school....it was so uncomfortable watching with a room full of 18 yr old guys....Ill never forget the impact it had on me when I first realized what the Holocaust was....
