I read pretty much any chance I get. I mostly read YA books but some adult ones as well. To me all books are precious gems and are meant to be treasured.

I had really high hopes for this graphic novel. When I heard that they were coming out with these volumes I couldn't wait to dive more into the world of True Blood. However, if you think they follow the format of the show or the books, you are completely wrong. I sat down to read this book thinking it would be the show, only in book form, and played out in beautiful illustrations. Thought the illustrations are very nice and life like, the story goes a complete different direction. Don't get me wrong this isn't a bad thing it just wasn't what I was expecting. These graphic novels are more like side stories of the show.

That said I really enjoyed seeing the world of True Blood, and its unique band of characters at my finger tips. It takes place in Merlotte's on a hot rainy night, but all of us True Blood watchers know that there is never a normal night in Bon Temps, and especially not at Merlotte's. It starts off like any other night, with Sookie showing up to work and the usual characters in turn showing up at Merlotte’s. Their night quickly down spirals as a horrible creature is revealed in the mist of Merlotte's customers. This vial creature goes on a rampage. Who dies and who survives? I'm not going to tell you, you will have to check it out yourself!

Overall I was delighted to get more True Blood action. Though I thought the villain in this book was a bit over the top, I have to remind myself that it is a graphic novel and most villains are a bit eccentric. I did enjoy learning about the secrets the characters had to reveal; that we would otherwise not have learned. It was almost like living a day in Sookie's shoes. I couldn't imagine knowing all the dirty secrets she knows, and still treating people the same, as if she didn't know.

If you enjoy True Blood and its band of characters, or just graphic novels in general you will enjoy this book.

Overall Rating = B

My Thoughts:

I am really looking forward to the next installment of this graphic novel series. Above you got to read my thoughts on the first volume, and in this next volume I am excited to see that its more about Jessica and Hoyt. Although I was a bit surprised with the introduction of Jessica in True Blood, because she is not in the books, I love her character. She is so sweet and adorable even as a vampire. I also love Hoyt, and in this one he throws a prom for Jessica. Isn't that just so romantic. He is the sweetest guy ever. I can't wait to see what happens.

  2. Interesting! I had no idea they had True Blood graphic novels, I would buy them just to see the illustrations:) Though I would have expected them to follow the show as well, it's kind of nice that we don't get the repetition, but rather something new. Thanks for sharing Laura!
