I read pretty much any chance I get. I mostly read YA books but some adult ones as well. To me all books are precious gems and are meant to be treasured.

Marked as a Fledging.
Captured by love.
Challenged by an unrelenting evil.......

In early nineteenth-century England, long before he's a professor at the Tulsa House of Night, Bryan Lankford is a troublesome yet talented human teen who thinks he can get away with anything until his father a wealthy nobleman, has finally had enough, and banishes him to America. When Bryan is marked by a vampyre on the docks and given the choice between the London House of Night and the dragon-prowed ship to America, he chooses the dragon--- a new name and a brand new fate.

Becoming a fledgling maybe exciting, but it opens a door to a dangerous world. In 1830s St. Louis, the Gateway to the West, Dragon Lankford becomes a Sword Master, and soon realizes there are both frightening challenges and beautiful perks......... such as Anastasia the captivating young Professor of Spells and Rituals at the Tower Grove House of Night who really should have nothing to do with a fledgling.

But when a dark power threatens. Dragon is caught in its focus. Though his uncanny fighting skills make him a powerful fledgling, is he strong enough to ward off evil while protecting Anastasia as well? Will his choices save her--- or destroy them both.

Dragon's Oath is a House of Night novella which is part of a mini-side series containing the pasts of the House of Night Professors. In this novella you get a little of present day Dragon and also his past. The present day Dragon is struggling with himself after his beloved Anastasia is taken away form him. This allows us to go into his past memories to see where it all began. For him he was Bryan Lankford the son of the Earl a nobleman, and he is a bit of a troublemaker. For this he is cast out of this family and out of England. Can you believe that his father just discards him like trash. There on the docks, being forced to leave his country and home, he is marked and his life changes forever. He leaves for America and chooses a new name; Dragon, and a new fate. In America he becomes a Sword Master and finds Anastasia.

I really enjoyed this book and think P. C. Cast made a great choice in writing these novellas to give us a glimpse into each character's past. This gives us a better idea of why they act the way they do in the present. I enjoyed seeing Dragon and Anastasia's relationship grow, and love blossom. Even though it was quick, they were meant for each other so I didn't mind how fast they fell in love. They are complete opposites and complement each other in that way.

Dragon even in the beginning struggles with his dark side; with the dragon with in him. Anastasia is the key to keeping him in check and reminds him that mercy is as important as his sword. However, now that Anastasia is gone Dragon is in the fight of his life, and its not with Konola or Raven mockers its with in himself. Will he let darkness and revenge take over his heart or will he remember what his beloved taught him, that mercy and love are more important than his sword. Unfortunately we will all have to wait and see what he chooses in Destined; House of Night book 9, Released November 2011.

Overall I really enjoyed this novella and can't wait to see which other professors' past we will get a glimpse of. I also loved the illustrations by Kim Doner they were beautiful and added to the story.

Overall Rating = A
